always reading
here are the last 8 months or so {man i'm behind!} of silly sayings, sweet sentiments, or memorable convos that i don't ever want to forget. or at least the ones i remembered to write down... starting with the oldest scribbles on my dayplanner:
the twins were reminding me of one of ella's past grievances and dawson said "you guys, that was a long time ago, she wasn't walking with the Lord then."
dawson was playing thumb war with me and when he used his other hand to pin my thumb down, i razzed him and called him a cheater! he said teasingly "mom, two thumbs is the upgrade"
mitch: i love charlie as much as my heart loves God
mitch: are armadillos reptiles or do they just need lotion?
charlie was snuggling with me so dawson came over and squeezed between us and said "it's my job to love mommy, go pick on someone your own size!"
after i was sent home from the doctor with antibiotics and orders to rest after chest x-rays for pnuemonia, dawson offered to pray for me "God, please touch mommy with your righteous, healing hand..."
dawson: "mom, i think your rule that we can't have screen time on school days should be abolished."
charlie was pulling on mitchy's pants as they ran around, so naturally his buns were hanging out. i told him "stop pulling mitch's pants down, it's not funny" and charlie replied "it is to me and many people around the world!"
mitch: "why do you like cute and olden days stuff? you should have more aggressive decorations."
dawson had a cold and told me he felt like "there's a sausage stuffed in my ear."
mitch: "i'm glad you're alive mom, everything about you is just great."
charlie tattled on dawson and when dawson asked "why did you tell on me?!" charlie answered, "i had to tell, it was destiny."
we were asking the kids what their dream car would be, mitchy announced "when i grow up i'm getting a dark blue mini van with a bumper sticker of a rancor." {a star wars creature} i'm going to go out on a limb and predict that mitch will be a full-fledged nerd.
dawson: "do you ever get mad when you can't explain something? that's what happens when i try to tell you how much i love you. i get so frustrated because there aren't the right words!"
while looking over a counter full of chocolate chips cookies that were set out to cool, mitch told me "mom, you're my childhood hero."
dawson messed up his bible verse a bit "...in faith, love, and puberty."
dawson: "mom, whenever i don't feel good i just look at you and then i feel better."
dawson: "when you told me about Jesus it changed my whole life. seriously, it's like i could feel something."
charlie spent the summer calling his favorite pink bird stuffed animal a "ma-flingo" and we will never say the word flamingo again in this family. maflingo is way cuter.
mitchy struggled with nightmares for a bit after we moved from the mountain view house. we did a lot of praying about it and he always knew he could come to our room. one morning he told me he'd had a nightmare so when i asked why he didn't come get me, he said "because when i'm scared God lays his hand on my head." i was speechless.
dawson is really into gemology and elements and all things science. he asked if he could see my jewelry to look at what gems i had. i told him i just have a wedding ring and he threw his hands in the air and said "you mean to tell me in 20 years dad's never bought you a gemstone besides your ring?! i need to have a serious talk with him!"
during our disneyland trip i asked charlie if he was sure he didn't want to try tower of terror. splash mountain is his favorite ride because of the big drop, and i kept telling him tower of terror does that over and over again! he answered with this: "the reason i like splash mountain is because you fall but is isn't terrifying. it's peaceful, it has chickens, wearing dresses..."
the kids love my beer bread so i got a good chuckle when charlie asked me, "can you make chili and alcoholic bread? i'm craving it."
we laughed so hard when dawson got bonked in the jewels and accidentally said "owww charlie, you just hit me in the testimony!" instead of testicles. let's hope that region doesn't become part of their testimony...
dawson told ella her breath smelled like "a troll in a hot tub."
charlie told me over christmas break "mom, i have feelings for you."
charlie is a major insect and spider lover, so it didn't surprise me when he asked "when i get to heaven, can God make me a big tarantula to snuggle with in bed?" dawson answered back "i think you got mixed up charlie, that sounds more like hell."
mitch: "hey mom, how long have we been out in the snow?"
me: "oh, about 20 minutes."
mitch: "well then that was the best 20 minutes of my life!"
charlie: "mitch, people are going to like you better than me because you have blonde hair." mitchy responded "no, people will like me better for my personality."
