a special night with my little man

i really want to be intentional with my sons when it comes to learning how to treat and respect girls/women/mamas, and how to be a gentleman. i feel like boys with nice manners are about as rare as unicorns. so i scheduled a special date night with dawson at luna to go over some top-secret info about what makes the female species feel special and honored. and i had a little surprise up my sleeve, a tux for him to wear. i knew it would be something he would never forget, especially since he has been obsessed with tuxedos for some reason, go figure. so when he got home from school on friday and saw it all set out for him, he was over the moon! and the ladies at the men's warehouse were so excited for our little date that they gave me a discount on the rental. so we got dressed up, and stopped by jewelry design center to look at gems {another obsession of dawson's, crystals and gems} and then we were off to luna to eat dinner. as we pulled into the parking lot i was all set to give dawson the low-down on gentlemanly behavior when i was pleasantly surprised to see his sweet little face at my car door as he opened it! then, he opened the door to the restaurant, then he buttered my bread and gave me the first piece {clearly he knows the way to my heart, carbs}. i was impressed and also secretly thinking "wow, i guess he can't claim ignorance anymore since he clearly knows some fancy manners!" dawson had also seen a blue cocktail on a billboard weeks before that he had asked me if i could recreate, minus the booze. so when i sent him off to wash his hands i handed the waitress some blue kool-aid powder to add to his sprite, which she fancied-up in a tall glass with lime wedges. he was such a happy boy and so chatty, i remember his eyes were so sparkly. i just soaked in all of his sweetness and treasured in my heart this alone time with him. we had a good talk, silly stuff and super important stuff. and then like a little man, he offered to order the dessert for us to share which impressed me, and the waitress;) he was just as cute as a bug in a rug. we finished our yummy dessert and then as we left, the hostess followed us out and offered to take our picture. such a precious time, my heart was so full and i am really grateful for this memory with him. i think he felt a bit like cinder-fella the next day when we had to return his tux and schnazzy shoes, the party was over, boo! crazy to think that the next time i see him in a tuxedo will probably be for a high school dance, then his wedding....i know it will feel like i blinked and we're there.
