The fairy surgeon and her latest piece of art.

Tonight was Academic Night at Ella's school and my chance to see what she was in for next year, I still don't know how this happened - she was just a baby yesterday... I met her teacher who is the quintessential kindergarten teacher, the warmest, sweetest lady ever. We talked for quite a while about Ella, my fears and hopes for her next year. One thing I've been so worried about is her kindergarten test (I know, a test for kindergarten!). I think I have more jitters about Ella taking that then I did about my college entrance exams! Everyone thinks their kids are the smartest and the cutest, but when it comes down to seeing on paper if you've been doing a good job, it's kind of intimidating. She was so reassuring and said something that made me fall in love with her - "they are still just babies." They really are, they've only had 5 years on the planet, they have so much ahead of them. Their room is adorable, so tidy and bright. Floor to ceiling fun to be had. I kinda wish I could go with her to school to be honest. The principal and Head Master spoke, more of a mini-sermon then an orientation, which I loved. I know all of us take our kids' education seriously and feel led in different ways, and it's the matters of the heart that had Todd and I discussing and praying about school for over a year and a half. I know a lot of friends and family members can relate - it's a big decision. We feel so much peace knowing that what we are teaching her at home, what she is learning at church, and what will be presented at school are all pointing her to the same thing, a relationship with Jesus. One of the things that was said by the Head Master really struck me, he said that their goal as a school is that each child will "learn to cherish self denial." He said that they want to create an environment where children aren't comparing themselves with one another's strengths and weaknesses, yet on the other hand, that they would realize they have unlimited potential in Christ. I don't know how long we will be able to send her there. Things change - finances, geography, the needs of our kids, but for now I know this is right where Ella should be.
