This is what Charlie's very limited set of dental equipment does to an apple ~ makes me smile.

Fresh Picked Fun!
We took yet another family fieldtrip to the Bluff in early September for {honey crisp} apples, and looking back at these pictures, it's hard to believe we were in sundresses and shorts just a handful of weeks ago! We hadn't had a good frost to set the sugar in the apples, and to give them that juicy snap, but they were still good for eating, and perfect for baking. Ella was the designated ladder climber this time, she was very proud to be the one to reach the tippy top ones. We love one of the farmers up there, he and his wife are incredibly sweet, and when we stopped by to take a look at their barn sale, they let the kids climb on the tractor and offered to show the kids their calves. So they got to feed the baby cows apples, and play around on their hay stacks. Charlie is an animal lover like his Mama, so he was in hog heaven, and Dawson and Mitchy were thrilled to fake drive the farm equiment. It was a hot, fun day in the sun followed by ice cream, then home to make apple pie. Actually, I made crostata this time and vowed to never make an apple pie again, it was so yummy. I hate when the bottom of a pie gets soggy once you cut into it and all the juices find their way out of their buttery prison. But crostatas bake so evenly and the crust stays perfectly crusty.

That apple is hilarious!
Remember the last time we went to the Bluff?? When I got home, there was one of Charlie's apples in my box, I immediately knew who the culprit was :)
