We have celebrated the 4th of July at D and Richie's cabin a lot over the years, and we look forward to it every summer. The weather wasn't cooperating at first, but it wound up being a great day even if it was kinda chilly. It was probably the first time I've been to the lake and haven't taken a dip. Just too cold, even for me. Luckily kids don't have mature nerve ending apparently, they had no problem floating around in the cold water - I remember those carefree days...We didn't know how long the littlest Rufflings would last since they couldn't roam around and play with the lake so close, they're troopers, but without a real nap we weren't sure. They did awesome though, especially my sweet little Mitchy (and who knew the next morning he'd have
3 new teeth without so much as a peep about it). Charlie was fine if he was being held (and not trapped in the play yard on a fluffy blankie with fabulous toys and snacks - a real torture chamber if you ask him) which is what he prefers most days anyway. There is no hope for my posture returning to upright after this child, I'm going to be a hunch back forever after toting that tank around. We took a boat ride, no water toys this time because we all have too many stinkin' kids. We were reminiscing about the ole days at the lake when we didn't have anyone to worry about except our Black Labs and one special little Golden Retriever. We actually got to water ski, jet ski, wake board, eat with both of our hands, finish a conversation, watch fireworks and not worry about packing ear plugs, or burn cream for sparkler mishaps, or... But the ole days are gone, and a new era is in full swing, it's the-lake-looks-like-a-daycare era. Well, a daycare with beer and champagne. We ate, we chased kids, and we ate some more and kept chasing kids. Rinse, repeat. But most importantly, we made it to the fireworks so I was happy! It was a great day with friends and another fabulous 4th of July at the lakey for the memory bank.

AMEN to that sister! It is a new era and as exhausting as it is, it's everything we've ever wished for and more!
Cheers to many more 4th's together! xoxoxo
